                                                                                               [- INSTALLING LAUNCH PAD ON HARD DRIVE -]                                                                                                                                                                                                 The FIRST thing that you have to do..is make back-up copies of             Launch Pad .............Use "DISKCOPY OR XCOPY"...See.....DOS MANUAL         to achieve this. Then, please put away the original                         (two) Disks and only use the back-up copies.                                This way only the back-ups can be harmed (if at all).                                                                                                   To load the Launch Pad on your hard drive, place DISK (1) in                A: Drive and type: INSTALL   A box will then appear on the                  screen informing you that this "install program" will not                  change your CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT files.....See...MISC..Page 14         First, enter the drive that you want to copy from ( A,or B ) drive.         And then it will ask you which Drive to install Launch Pad onto.            All you have to do is enter the letter of the drive you                     want Launch Pad copied to. EXAMPLE: C, D, E, or G only.             *-      You can only copy these files to a hard drive.                                                                                                          The "Install program" will then create one DIRECTORY.                       The <LAUNCH> directory.                                                     The LAUNCH directory is for the Launch Pad program files                    and the file <TRACKLST> for the Name Tracker.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   The "Install program" will then copy all the files                          on DISK (1) to your hard drive, and then stop when completed                and ask you to place DISK (2) into A: Drive.                         *-     Place DISK (2) in A: Drive, close the drive door, and press ENTER.                                                                                      Once all the files are copied to your hard drive, you                       have the option of either running Launch Pad or returning                   to DOS. Put your back-up copies away, and only use the                      original 2 copies for making back-up copies.                                                                                                    *--- SET-UP  (Automatic Install)                                                                                                                                The Launch Pad is set-up to work only in the "LAUNCH" directory             (only), and will not work if placed in a different named                    directory.  And the directory must be off the root                          directory of whichever drive you choose.                                                                                                                Also, you cannot change any of the file names that operate                  the Launch Pad, to do so, would crash the program.                                                                                                                                                                                  You MUST have COMMAND.COM in ROOT DIR and DOS in your path.                 Example: In your AUTOEXEC.BAT file the PATH might look like this..          PATH=C:\;C:\DOS;C:\LAUNCH                                                                                                                                                                                                           In other words, the Launch Pad must be able to find                         DOS. Most hard drives are already set up this way                           so you proberly won't have to change anything.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Page 2                                                                                                                                                   [- HOW TO LOAD A PROGRAM ONTO THE LAUNCH PAD -]                                                                                                                                                                                         The frist thing you do is press <A> to ADD a program onto the               Launch Pad.                                                                 Then you will be asked which number to place the program                    next to. Answer by entering the first available number                      on the Launch Pad.                                                          Then you will be asked to enter the drive the program is on.                Just enter the drive letter and <not> the colon.                            Then you have to enter your path & file name & your name...Example:                                                                                           For the program GAME.EXE on D: drive in the GAME directory.     **--  1 & 2 Enter Placement number & drive <1>..<D>..then TYPE:                       3 <CD\GAME>            <-- this is the path to the GAME <DIR                                                                                            4 Then enter the EXE or COM or BAT file name.  Example:                       <GAME.EXE>                  <-- this is the file name                       This is the main file that starts your program.                                                                                             **--      5 Then enter your name for the file (up to 40 charaters).        '            Example: <F-111 FIGHTER PILOT>   <-- this is YOUR name for file                                                                                   Thats it, you're finished, now you never have to do it again.              From now on just press <L> and enter the number next to the *see Pg 14       program and you are in and running.  When you are finished running          a program, you are returned back to the Launch Pad ready to go again.                                                                                                                                                         [- RUNNING A PROGRAM -]                                                                                                                                       Press <L> &                                                                 enter the number next to the program and you're in and                      running that program. When completed, you will be returned                  back to the Launch Pad.                                                                                                                                 Or use the mouse...see page 14                                                                                                                                                                                                  [- GETTING AROUND THE MENUS -]                                                                                                                               All you have to do, is press the FUNCTION KEYS to view an                   option or utility. If you want to use the option just press                 <ENTER> when the option is still being displayed on the option              line. Each time you are finished with an option you are returned            back to the Launch Pad.                                                                                                                                -See page 14 to view & execute the menu with the mouse.                                                                                                  Alt-S = Screen Saver .. Alt-X = Exit to DOS .. Alt-L = User Log         **- Use Alt-M to reset the mouse if you forgot to turn the                      mouse on..if you have a switch box.                                         Alt-D = Jump to DOS .. Alt-B = Total Blackout                               For an auto-menu run, just click on the word "Menu", or..                   press <G> for "(G)o Menu" .. see Quick Help.                                                                                                            Setting the speed for the mouse                                     '       Shift + F1 =   +25         Shift + F3 =    0                        '       Shift + F2 =   -25         Shift + F4 =   +100                      '                                                                           '       Shift + F5 =   See Speed settings    Max = 15000                            This will be saved until you change them again.                                                                                                                                                                              Page 3                                                                                                                                                   [- QUICK HELP -]                                                                                                                                               Using this option gives you a quick reminder of                             what keys to use to get around the Launch Pad.                              Just press <H> any time you're looking at the Launch Pad                    and a pop-up help window appears on the screen.                                                                                                    **-- BACKUP                                                                      This will backup all the files on your hard drive  or...                    just the files that have not been backed up..you choose.                    All backups are directed to A: drive.                                                                                                                *- To activate the COMPLETE SYSTEM PASSWORD, enter the password                twice, the first time..after that you always have the option.                                                                                     [- THE SATELLITE .. UTILITIES-]                                                                                                                               UTILITIES...Inside this option holds the most utilities & power.            Options are listed on the top of the screen & in option boxes.                                                                                          You can COPY or block COPY files (tagged).                                  You can DELETE (erase) or block DELETE files (tagged).                      You can make or delete directories.                                         Rename files, disks, drives.                                                View files & alot more, so.. here is where the power comes in.                                                                                          TO START...                                                                 Press <F2> on the Launch Pad and then press <ENTER>.                        Then you will be asked which drive to view. Enter  A, B,                    C, D, E, F, G, or H only. Enter the drive letter (only).                **- If you select A: or B: drive, place the disk in the drive first.            Next, the screen will change and start to list all the                      directories on the drive you just selected.                                 If you do not have any directories, the Satellite will start                to list all the files on the root directory of the drive you                selected. If you do not have any files, then the Satellite                  will return to the last directory or drive you came from.            *-    If you started from the Launch Pad, you will be asked another drive.         After all the directories are listed, you select the directory              you want to work with by highlighting the directory with the                Pg Dn key and then press <ENTER>.                                           Then, all the files inside that directory will be displayed                 for your inspection.                                                        To return back to where you came from, press the <-> (minus) key.           To change drives or return to the Launch Pad press <ESC>.                   Also, while looking at your directories you can press <F10>                 to view your directory utilities. The utilities work by                     pressing the function keys or single letters.                                                                                                           To use the directory utilities, you must highlight a directory,             then press the function key or letter you need. When you're                 finished with the utility, you will be returned to where you                left off.                                                           ***---  BE CAREFUL of pressing the letter <D> WHILE highlighting                    a directory, this option DELETES (erase) the WHOLE directory.       ***---  But, not if it has a subdirectory. But it will still erase all the          files in the main-subdirectory.                                      -DIRECTORIES                                                                                                                                                   From the directory display, you can use the DOS line,                       jump to DOS, make or delete a directory, tag - untag                        a directory, check drive for fragmented files, see                          only certain files, & available memory.                                                                                                         Page 4                                                                              DOS line...By using this option, you can perform a DOS task                 ---------  and then return to the Satellite.                                           You can change drives first by entering the drive                           letter you want to work with first. EXAMPLE: <D:>                           So, enter <Letter & Colon then ENTER>, then DOS command.                *-  To change directories, just issue the change                                directory command first. EXAMPLE: CD\GAME then ENTER,                       then the prompt will reappear to enter the DOS                              command for the choosen directory.                                                                                                        Jump to DOS...When you jump to DOS, unlike the DOS line which only          -----------   works on two DOS command at a time. With this                               option, you stay in DOS until you type <EXIT> from                          the command line, which will bring you back to the                          Satellite. Here you can perform all the DOS                                 commands you need, one after the other.                                                                                                                 REMEMBER, type <EXIT> to return from this option.                                                                                         Make a <DIR...To make a directory, all you have to do is press              -----------   <F3> and you will be asked to enter the new                                 directory name. You can use any name, but make                              sure you do not already have a directory with the                           same name.                                                                  After you have named the directory, you will be                             returned and a new listing will show with the new                           directory name (you're allowed up to eight charaters).                                                                                    Delete <DIR...You have two ways to delete a directory.                      -----------   1. you can use option F3 like above example, or 2.                          you can highlight the directory you want to delete                          and press <D>...be careful here though, you                                 will erase all the files in that directory as well.                                                                                          Tag <DIR...To tag a directory, just highlight the directory                 --------   and press <T> for TAG. Use this option if you're                            not very good with paths, or to just speed up                               your file management.                                                  **-- Using this option you can go and TAG a directory                            and then every time you need to copy a file or                              move a file the PATH will be written out for                                you. For really long paths, you will only see                               the first 50 charaters, but the complete path                               is still working for you.                                      Untag <DIR...To untag a directory, just highlight the tagged                ----------   directory and press <U> for Untag.                                      *-- Or, if the tagged directory is many subdirectories                          deep, you can always just press <DEL> for the                               auto-Untag option. Great for switching tagged                               directories fast.                                       -FILES                                                                                   Copy...To copy a file, just highlight the file and press                    ----   <C> for copy, then enter your path. If you do not                           know how to enter a path, then just go and tag the                          directory you want to copy the file into. Or enter                          A: or B: to copy to the floppy Diskettes.                                   or [ A  or B ] with no colon.                                      Delete...To delete (erase) a file, just highlight the file                  ------   and press <D> for Delete. No path required.                                 You will be asked again if this is what you want                            to do. Answer <Y>es or <N>o.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Page 5                                                                                  View...To view a file, just highlight the file and press                    ----   <V> for View. You can only view certain files, like                         files with EXTentions of DOC, or txt or READ.ME                             files. If you select a file with an EXTention of                            EXE or COM you will proberly get nothing but                                jibberish. Just press <ESC> to return.                                      Press <V> again to change format.                                                                                                            See only...To see only certain files, like just the files with              --------   the EXTention of EXE only. Press <F6> and enter                             the EXTention you are interested in. The next time                          you select a directory to view, only the .EXE files                         in that directory will be shown.                                            You can use the <?> for any EXTention..EXAMPLE:                             >Find.. <T?T> = all files that start and end                                >with <T> will be shown, and any letter in between                          >the two T's will be shown.                                                                                                                          **-Do not add the <.> period for EXTentions,                                   this is automatic.                                                                                                                          Find File...To find a certain file, or duplicate files, use                 ---------   this option, <F7>. The Satellite will find the file                         and display the directory the file(s) is in.                                If you leave off the EXTention, then all files                              that start with the name you're looking for will                            be displayed.                                                               You can print this list to the printer two ways.                            1. Press <P>  or  2. Use print screen.                                                                                                  Fragmentation...To check and see if your files are fragmented,              -------------   press <F5>. Every time you delete a file and                                then copy a new file to a new directory, or                                 if you make alot of deletions or copies you                                 take the chance of fragmenting your files.                                  Do not worry, this is how DOS works.                                        DOS will fill in all empty spaces on your hard                              drive before it starts to fill-in at the end                                of your drive. So, If you delete a file with                                only 700 bytes and then copy a new file to your                             hard drive with say 900 bytes...DOS will split                              the file up...the first 700 bytes go to the place                           you deleted and the other 200 bytes go someplace else.   ----------------   So, you have a fragmented file.                          If you have alot   This only slows your hard drive down and will not        of fragmented      hurt your drive. To UNfragment a file you must           files, it's best   use a disk optimizer, or you can do it the old way       to purchase a      by copying your files to disk, (use copy only, not       disk optimizer.    diskcopy) then reformat.                                 To many fragmen-   Then copy them back to your hard drive from the disks.   ted files    ***-- DO NOT REFORMAT if you do not know what you're doing.    can hurt your      This will erase all the files on your hard drive,        hard drive by      including DOS, your AUTOEXEC.BAT & CONFIG.SYS files,     excessive move-    and all other files on your drive. [Not Recommended]     ment and wear.   *-Your best bet is to purchase a disk optimizer.           ---------------                                                                 Rename Files...To rename a file (give it a different name), just            ------------   highlight the file and then Press <R> for Rename.                           You can rename any file you wish. But, be careful                           not to rename a file that one of your programs may                          need. Example: on the Launch Pad you CANNOT REname                          any of the program files or the program will crash.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Page 6                                                                                       *-This option is for text files or files you create.                          But can be used on all files.                                            **-Also DO NOT rename a file to one that is already in                         your directory. You can have two files with the same                        name, but not in the same directory.                                                                                                        Tag Files...This option is for a group of files to be copied or             ---------   deleted at one time inside the same directory.                              Just highlight all the files you want to work with        -------------     and press <T> to tag them.                                Working with |  *-You can tag as many files as you have in that dir-        a group of   |    ectory....SEE..Copy all files..below                      files at once|    After all the files you want copied or deleted are        -------------     tagged, just press <C> to COPY or <D> to DELETE them,                       then enter your path.....Tag your directory to copy                         your files to first, if you do not understand paths.                     **-You do not have to enter a path to DELETE files.                                                                                          Untag Files...To UNtag a file just highlight that file and press            -----------   <U> for Untag.                                                            *-Or, you can use the up-arrow key for auto-untag if                          you have alot of tagged files or change your mind.                                                                                     Copy all Files...To copy all the files in a certain directory, go           --------------   into that directory (remember highlight and press ENTER) Or tag a directory then enter your path. All the files in that directory    first for path.    will be copied to your path, be it a drive or directory. ------------------ If by chance you do not have room on the target drive                       or directory for a large file, then the Satellite will                      still copy the files you have room for and not copy                         just the larger files. So, check your target to see                         if all the files you needed were copied. If not, then                       you have to erase some or put them on a different drive                     or in a different directory that has the room.                            *-Or on a new diskette.                                                                                                                     Misc         DO NOT remove the diskette from A: or B: drive until you     Satellite      return back to your hard drive.                          '                  Example:                                                                    Say you're copying from A: drive to your hard drive. Now,                   You're finished and you want to return to C: drive.                         Press <ESC>, enter <Y>, enter <C>...now remove the                          diskette from A: or B: drive.                                                                                                                        *- Or, if you're viewing A: or B: drive, leave the diskette                    in the drive until you return back to your hard drive.                                                                                                  With option <F4> on directories, [ view tree ] if you     -#                answer <Y> then you can fix lost clusters & convert       --------------    lost chains to files. If fixed, these files will be in    xxxx = 0000 to|   your Root directory, with names like, [ FILExxxx.CHK ].-#        9999   |   Then view the files with the TYPE command and if they     --------------    do not contain anything useful, you can erase them.                         The drive you choose must have DOS on it.                                                                                                          **-- If you want to run a program from A: or B: drive,                           place the diskette in the drive first, then switch                          to the drive, highlight the main EXE or COM file that                       runs the program and press <ENTER>. Leave the diskette                      in the drive until you return back to your hard drive.                                                      Page 8                                                                                                                                                    [- MEMO PAD & ALARM -]                                                                                                                                        To use the Memo Pad, just press <M> from the Launch pad                     interface. (where you launch your programs from).                           Or, press F3 & ENTER..or use the mouse.                                     You have ten lines to leave a message in.                                   To go from one line to the next without deleting any                        other line, just press enter on the first charater                          of each line to go down one line at a time.                               *-You can leave any time by pressing <ESC>.                                   You DO NOT have to finish a line first.                                   *-Anything you type in will be saved automatically.                           You can use any charater including <!@#$%^&*()>?                                                                                                  ALARM Setting                                                               -----                                                                             To set the alarm, press <ALT-A> once inside the Memo Pad.                   Enter the time or date in computer time only.                               EXAMPLE: 2pm would be <14:00> (colon is automatic unless you erase)                  2am would be <02:00>                                               When you have finished entering the time, press <ENTER>                     to return to the "Memo pad" and then <ESC> to return to                     the Launch Pad.                                                           *-On date use the hyphen. EXAMPLE: 12-25-1990                                                                    ^                                                                           |                                                                         hyphen                                                                                                         [- PROGRAM TIMER -]  to run a program at a certain time.                                                                                                  To use the program timer, press <F6> & ENTER, and you will be asked         to enter the time of the program to go off.                                 Enter this time in computer time, just like in setting the                  ALARM....SEE above                                                          Press <ENTER> when asked if you want todays time or date.                   Then enter the number of the program you want to run.                       That program will now start automatically as long as                        you are viewing the Launch Pad. If your computer is                         shut off when the time for the program is ready to run, then                it will run as soon as you start your computer.                                                                                                         You can only shut this off by entering the timer time & date                again, but this time just press <ENTER> all three times.                    *- The Launch Pad will turn off the timer if all answers are empty.                                                                    <blank>             *- Remember, for todays time or date, just press ENTER when asked.          *- To launch your DOS commands, ENTER # 250 for program number.             *- Can be used for any time or date.                                                                                                                       Enter the time or date in computer time only.                               EXAMPLE: 2pm would be <14:00> pm                                                     2am would be <02:00> am                                                                                                                  [- DOS SPOOLER -]         Now ... timed DOS commands.                                                And the same commands can be used again & again.                                                                                      To use this option, press <F5> & <ENTER>.                                   Great for running programs..one after the other..non-stop.               *- Use as a quick batch file, or set-up for someone else & save it.            Or one DOS task after another or ?? whatever you can come up with.       *- You MUST know how to use DOS for this option.                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Page 13                                                                                                                                                    [- SOUND -]                 Alarms...                                                                                                                       Highlight option and press ENTER to execute.                                Turns on and off the sound for the "Memo Pad" & appointment book.           With the sound off, you can still see the alarm message                     flashing on the screen.                                                                                                                          [- PASSWORD -]   * For the password to work, you must leave the Launch Pad                     correctly... [Esc]=Exit                                                                                                                     Highlight option and press ENTER to execute.                                The password can be changed at any time inside the Launch Pad.              If you choose not to have a password, then never select this option.        If you do use the password, and forget it, then refer to the slip           of paper registered users receive with diskettes.                           You're allowed up to 7 charaters for the password.                                                                                               [- EXIT TO DOS -]                                                                                                                                              Highlight option and press ENTER to execute.                                This option allows you to block the exit to DOS.                            To Unblock the exit, press this option again.                                                                                                    [- USER LOG -]     Can be used with the mouse    ...see page 14                                                                                                Highlight option and press ENTER to execute.                                The User Log will show you the program you were in, and for                 how long of a time you used the program.                                    The User Log will hold (approx) 32,700 entries.                             To erase the User Log and start over again, just press <E> to               erase the Log.  You are asked if this is what you want,                     answer <Y>es or <N>o.                                                                                                                               [- PRINTER STATUS -]                                                                                                                                       Highlight option and press ENTER to execute.                                This will show you if your printer is ready and on line, or not.                                                                                     [- SCREEN SAVER -]                                                                                                                                         Highlight option and press ENTER to execute.                                This will allow you to turn off and back on again the screen saver.         Just highlight this option and press ENTER to change back again.                                                                                     [- RETURN -]                                                                                                                                               Highlight option and press ENTER to execute.                                Return to the Launch Pad interface.                                                                                                                  [- COLORS -]                                                                                                                                               To change the colors, use the Left & Right cursor keys.                     To change the background pattern, use the Left & Right cursor keys.         To change the pattern color, use the Up & Down cursor keys.                 To return to the default colors, press <D>, <S> to save & leave.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Page 14                                                                                                                                                    [- MOUSE -]      Launch Pad, User Log, Manual, Name Tracker ONLY                                                                                           The Mouse is not required, so if you don't have one don't worry             because you can still use the keyboard.                                  *- BUMPER BUTTONS - Just touch the button and the page will change.            To LAUNCH a program with the mouse, move the mouse cursor to                the row the program is on and then press the LEFT mouse button.             Except.. be on the correct side of the screen or you will Launch            the program on that row on the opposite side.                               To VIEW the MENU (Function Keys), move the mouse cursor into or             on the little square function box and the option will be displayed.         *- To EXECUTE the OPTIONS, press the Right mouse button while               the option is still showing, this will "Launch" the option.                -But first you must show options by touching the function box, then          the RIGHT button will activate the option.                                  To change PAGES, move the mouse cursor to the page box and                  press the LEFT mouse button to go PgDn & the RIGHT mouse                    button to go PgUp, then go and select the program you want                  to Launch on that page. Or.. use the BUMPER BUTTONS.                        To ADD a program, move the mouse cursor to the word "Add"                   and press the LEFT mouse button & then follow the screen                    instructions.                                                               To Launch the DOS Spooler, move the mouse cursor over the                   highlighted letter "S" and press the left mouse button.                    -Only if you have saved DOS commands beforehand with the Save option.        To use the mouse with menu OPTION "F10", move the mouse cursor              to the "F10" box and press the LEFT mouse button, then continue             to press the LEFT button until you are highlighting the option              you want to execute & then press the RIGHT button TO execute.               To leave the "F10" option box, press both buttons at the same time.        -The mouse cursor is turned off on this option.                              It will be turned on again when you return to the Launch interface.         To use the mouse with the User Log, just press the LEFT button              for PgDn & the RIGHT button for PgUp.                                       Press both buttons at the same time to return to the Launch Pad.            -To HIDE the mouse cursor, place the cursor between the words               "program" and "Esc", this is where it will go after the screen              clears, or..place the cursor on the command line under the boxes.           *-To Exit the Launch Pad with the mouse, move the mouse cursor              to the word "Esc" and press the LEFT mouse button.                          Use the left button on start up (viewing stars) if you like,                this will bring you to the Launch Pad Interface.                          *-For the three button mouse, try the middle button to Exit.              **--Use <Alt> & <M> to reset the <M>ouse...(Launch Pad & Name Tracker)          To change the TIME, just highlight the Hour or Minute with the mouse        and click once. Left button = (-), Right button = (+) min or hour.                                                                                                                                                            [- MISC. SUBJECTS -]            Copyright 1990, 91 (C) Brandyware (R)                                             All rights reserved worldwide                                                    24 N. Hibbert #6                       *--  CONFIG.SYS ......file            Mesa, Az 85201     V3.2                    ----------                                                                  This is one of the first files that your computer looks at                  when you first BOOT (start) your computer.                                  Inside this file should be things like:                                     FILES=15                                                        '           BUFFERS=15                                                                  The Launch Pad does not change this file.                                   To find out more about this file check your DOS manual.               *--   AUTOEXEC.BAT ......file
